EXP3 Final Submission- Moving Elements

This clip displays my four moving elements. Each of the double storey windows is designed to expand and retract to give more space where necessary. I imagine these could be expanded to cater for a large influx of students, or to get more sunlight as the day progresses. Conversely, these could be retracted to create more intimate spaces, or to keep the building footprint smaller, thereby decreasing operating costs.

EXP 3 Final Model- Lumion

The final design utilises the concepts from my earlier sketches, featuring a variety of rectangular prisms. Furthermore, the rotating squares that form the helix are inspired from JJ Lequeu's plan. My theory for this assignment states that "the most harmonious spaces diversify how form and function interplay," and I believe that this bridge creates a harmonious space. Whilst it serves as an educational building at UNSW, the form, through its interesting structure and variety of shapes, creates a congruous space for all.

Sketchup Drafting

 This section shows the two floors of my bridge. I created a collage of different sized rectangles to act as windows for the bridge, as well as interior display panels, which double as a gallery space to display students work.

 The lecture theatre is contained within one of the 'pop out' windows, that will eventually move in and out to provide more space as necessary. The helix shape can be seen here.

 This section shows the panels mentioned above, complete with custom textures. The lecture theatre on the right hand side has a popped up glass roof, that joins together with the outer, helix structure. 

 The lower floor contains study spaces, a small library, as well as studio spaces, complete with computers. I imported furniture to clarify how these spaces could be used. 

 The upper floor has more, open studio spaces, as well as offices and meeting rooms. The lecture theatre entrance is on this level, as well as male and female bathrooms. I chose to omit a design workshop from my final model, as the connecting squarehouse contains an already capable workshop.

The final model in its intended context. It will join from the squarehouse to the blockhouse. The helix structure can be seen from Anzac Parade, as well as the four, double storey windows that jut out from the structure.

The Plan

I chose to use J.J Lequeue's plan, which features a multitude of squares that have been overlayed. I thought I could use this concept of squares interacting with each other for my bridge. Instead of laying the squares over each other linearly, I chose to play around rotation, and created a structure resembling a helix.

EXP 3 Textures

These are the textures I have developed for EXP 3. For my last three sets of six textures, I chose the words Fractal, Organic and Symmetrical. The textures at the bottom represent those I used in my final model.
